Stony fields are divided by characteristic dry-stone walls which mark the boundaries of the pasturelands of sparse, thin grass. However, in spring the marvellous colours of the spring flowers change this usually barren landscape into an area of untamed, wild beauty.

These areas of the Ibleo plateau, which make up a large part of the Province of Ragusa, then slope gently towards the sea, first in flat, fertile areas and then in low, even hills.

The area of Ragusa in not only rich from a historic-artistic point of view but also from the naturalistic aspect. Along the coast there are the fascinating “macconi”: high sand dunes on which the “retana”flowers grows. Not to be missed, just 20km from Ragusa, is the castle of Donnafugata, which can be visited.
